I'm not sure what the policy is at other centers for re-listing patients if they have graft failure after they are finished with the study and follow up
Islet transplant is definitely considered therapy. Its a functional cure, having working islet cells doesn't rid the body of the underlying autoimmune disorder that destroys the cells in the first place.
Most people do need multiple transplants at this time but that is the whole point of the clinical trails - to find ways to minimize the number of transplants needed and to find ways make it a more viable treatment option for anyone that needs it.
thanks for your comments ;)parrotletzoohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13782587755946359623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3066182423572909826.post-66304830962312449542012-02-25T08:14:05.948-05:002012-02-25T08:14:05.948-05:00Six years! Particularly, since the first transplant was so successful. I look at islet transplantation as a therapy, not a cure, and most people would need multiple transplants. Hopefully, not all people will. P.S. I'm so happy for you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3066182423572909826.post-63849964309477162692012-02-05T09:46:11.603-05:002012-02-05T09:46:11.603-05:00Excellent post, thank you for sharing.Excellent post, thank you for sharing.Medical Alert Systemshttp://seniorsafety.comnoreply@blogger.com
