It was distributed by the Ames Company which was a subsidiary of Miles Laboratories, which would be acquired (and the acquiring company then acquired, and so on) by what is today known as Roche Diagnostics/Roche Diabetes Care (best known as the seller of Accu-Chek testing supplies). I remember not being very convinced that he was my friend, but someone in marketing thought it was a good idea. I also found the name odd, as Hypo was not only a syringe, but low blood sugar, so they might have found a more suitable name. I also remember that on pages 2-3 of this little book were references to people I'd NEVER heard of (or just barely), including tennis star Bill Talbert (little wonder why I didn't know him; he played back in the 1940's and 1950's), and I only knew about one of the other guys mentioned -- Mayor LaGuardia -- because an airport in New York was named after him, but again, he was deceased ... and then they mention Thomas Edison? I knew the name as inventor of the incandescent light bulb. But really, they mentioned a famous inventor who was alive 100 years earlier, and that was the best they could come up with? Regardless, I appreciate that there is SOMEONE out there who remembers this little booklet aside from me! Thanks for sharing all of the images.Scott Shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03286529314567223617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3066182423572909826.post-2394110959697280962017-08-31T02:37:44.101-04:002017-08-31T02:37:44.101-04:00Great blog all the bestGreat blog all the bestUrology Surgery Indiahttp://www.urocareindia.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3066182423572909826.post-58262829968843428992012-02-26T19:04:12.211-05:002012-02-26T19:04:12.211-05:00I've been told that if I need a second transpl...I've been told that if I need a second transplant that I can be re-listed. Its a functional cure, having working islet cells doesn't rid the body of the underlying autoimmune disorder that destroys the cells in the first place.
Most people do need multiple transplants at this time but that is the whole point of the clinical trails - to find ways to minimize the number of transplants needed and to find ways make it a more viable treatment option for anyone that needs it.
thanks for your comments ;)parrotletzoohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13782587755946359623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3066182423572909826.post-66304830962312449542012-02-25T08:14:05.948-05:002012-02-25T08:14:05.948-05:00Six years! Particularly, since the first transplant was so successful. I look at islet transplantation as a therapy, not a cure, and most people would need multiple transplants. Hopefully, not all people will. My mother is diabetic and their research looked very promising. They have just announced they are teaming up with UIC.

The company is Sernova (www.sernova.com) and what they are doing is encapsulating donated islets in a special device that is surgically implanted into your pancreas so that the donated islets aren't attacked by your immune system. This would allow donors to help many more people with fewer islets going to "waste".

I encourage you all to visit the site and view their presentation.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
