Macabre Entertainment for the week 10/31

It's Halloween.

It's a transplant related type blog.

I have an odd sense of humor.

Enjoy.

The Hand: A hand transplant gone horribly wrong...

sidebar: people ask me if my personality has changed since my transplant, or if I have any new likes/dislikes that maybe, just maybe I got from my donor. No. I'm still weirdo me cause that shit doesn't happen. Its an urban myth and people that say it happens also belive in things like Sasquatch, and alien invaders that put silicone chips up red necks' noses. They're delusional, crayZee with a capitol Z.

I'm still me.

yay!

No Child Left Behind?

Much like the majority of my blog entries, here is yet another non-diabetes, non-transplant related post/video.

And we wonder why edumacation en the United Stats be lacking.

Kudos to ArtieTSMITW on the making of a fine fine video!

Random Entertainment For The Week 10/25

This is what my brain can handle tonight. I just returned from four hours of face painting toddlers. Yay Halloween!

Its Korean. From what I've read "of course" or "obvious" sounds the same as "carrot" in Korean, hence the dancing carrots!

English Translation:

Ah ah ah
Obvious Song!
Do you miss me? (Obvious!)
Do you think about me? (Obvious!)
I love you, you love me
Obvious! Obvious! Obvious!

Do you like me? (Obvious!)
Do you love me? (Obvious!)
I love you, you love me
Obvious! Obvious! Obvious!

Dont ever change (Obvious!)
Forever and ever (Obvious!)
I like you, I like you
Obvious! Obvious! Obvious!

Always be happy (Obvious!)
Always cheer up (Obvious!)
I love you I love you
Obvious Song!

Even though at times you feel irritable
Even though at times its difficult
Always think of me, wholl always be smiling by your side

Even though at times you feel sad
Even though at times its lonely
Always think of me, wholl always be with you

Ah ah ah
Obvious Song!

Photos From Mackinac

Mackinac Island is really hilly. This sign was at the top of a hill we climbed. Too bad there wasn't a warning at the bottom. "dangerous hill, walk bicycles. no carriages with out brakes"

Arch Rock from M-185. Yes, there's a state highway on an island with no cars.

The view of Lake Huron from Arch Rock. M-185 runs along the shore line below. We had to climb down the bluff from arch rock to the highway. This photo was taken before the one above. I'm not a fan of heights. Can you say scary boys and girls?

About a third of the way down. This doesn't even being to portray just how high up and on the edge and creepy it was...

Trash collection in a town with no garbage trucks.

A few vacation homes on the west bluff. Needless to say, this is not where we spent the week.

None of the photos I took of downtown turned out. Boo for me. There's always next year.

Vacation and back again

We just returned from 5days on Mackinac Island in Northern Michigan. I love the island. We normally go at least once a year but we haven't had time or resources to really take a vacation since the transplant. (check out the cam!)

If you're not familiar with Mackinac go watch Somewhere In Time, ignore the cars and you'll get an idea of what the island is like. There are no cars on the island out side of emergency vehicles and the oddball tractor used for construction projects during the off season. The primary modes of transportation are bicycle and horse drawn carriage. There's not a lot on the island especially in October when most of the proprietors have gone back to the mainland and the tourists are scarce. There a fort, which was closed, downtown, most of which was closed, a butterfly house (too cool!), a few bars and shops still open and a whole lot of trails to explore. We spent most of the week wandering around trails, mostly abandoned roads, and tiptoeing around horse poop(downtown is kept very clean but the back roads, not so much) ahh, good times.

Have I mentioned that I love Mackinac Island? There's just nothing like climbing 3/4ths of the way up a bluff, stopping and realizing that there are absolutely no human sounds to be heard outside of your own breathing. The only glitch we came across is about 30 minutes after we arrived Transplant Nurse called to tell me I needed an additional 4 days of antibiotics and could I stop by the nearest Target and pick those up today? Nope, nearest Target was 2 hours away and the closest pharmacy was a 20 minute boat ride back to the mainland and I wasn't going back! So, I had a UTI last week,(tmi) and took 10 days of antibiotics but not 14 like they done wanted me to but I'm not dead yet so all is well. Oooh and the other glitch? The water was funky, ok well not funky, but it's not municipal water so even though the island has a filtration system, I was afraid to drink the water and ended up buying a lot of bottled drinks instead.

On transplant notes, when Transplant Nurse called she said they want me to return to Chicago in November rather then wait until my usual three month follow up. I didn't have great cell phone reception on Mackinac so I can't really say why I'm going back. I should probably find out why tomorrow.

and tomorrow, pictures will be posted too!

yayfotos.

imagine this only no so many people cause we were there the last week of the season. Our last night there were only two room occupied at the hotel we were at. can you say creepy?

Have you?

I've asked before. I'll ask again.

Have you registered as an organ donor yet?

Find links to your states donor registration info here.

Even if you think you can't donate, please register anyway. Each organ/tissue is evaluated before donation. You might just save a life.

Thanks.

Mouth Ulcers

This is one of four mouth ulcers I have right now. It's also the smallest. I'd photograph the others for you but they're in spots non-conducive to photographing, like inside my cheeks and way far in the back and I'm just not that talented with a camera. ;)

Anyhoo, you get the idea. They hurt, they make eating frustrating, they keep me awake at night. They're a biotch. Such is life with immuno suppression drugs.

That being said 2yrs after transplant my kidneys are perfection so I'll take the trade.

Random Entertainment For the Week 10/10

Every time the price drops here gas stations have lines and run out of gas. It's ridiculous. anyway, I found this video about such things. ;)

Gettin' Busy With Santa and the Mrs.

So, I work with this lady that looks like Mrs. Claus (We'll just call her Mrs. Claus) and her husband looks like, you guessed it. Mr. Claus. At holiday time they hire themselves out for parades and parties and such. Being that I have a business in the children's entertainment industry and having known the Mr and Mrs for a few years, I know they start to book up early, so I wanted to ask how things were going.and *this* is the conversation about such things that happened at work the other day.

Me: "hi Mrs. Claus, how are you?"
Mrs. Claus: "good, you"
Me: "Me, fine, thanks, How are holiday plans coming along.... Are you and Santa gettin busy?"

(*me, slaps forhead for saying such inappropratenessess to said childhood icon)

The whole "gettin' busy with Santa" comment was lost on her and then she said and I quote....

Mrs. Clause: "Oh ya, we're gettin' busy, there's *insert local country club*... oh and that lady we do every year....."

Me" *slap*!

welcome to the pre-holiday season in children's entertainment...

Lost meter and Chicago

I lost my meter.

"Which meter", you ask, "good dog woman, you have like 50 of them!"

Yeah, I have many many meter, but I lost the one I use every day. You know, the one that's become part of me because it has more blood on it and in the pockets of it's case then I have in my veins. It has my numbers from the last three months, unlogged because I'm a slacker and I always wait until two nights before an appointment to write them down. I used it as my wallet. It had my debit card, my credit cards, my insurance cards, my pictures of my girls!! gah.

I canceled my cards, that was a minor inconvenience, I had a spare insurance card, but I'm totally totally sad about losing the girls photos and the note that Kate mailed me when she was four. I shall be sad until I find it or well, always, even if I have every line, every scribble, every X and O memorized. You just can't replace that. *sigh*

On the Chicago note. I was nauseous and pukey the morning of my appointment (as I have been on and off for months) so they're trying to figure out why. My blood sugar was a little high for fasting and that might be the problem but so far I think we're leaning towards "you're on meds that make you nauseous and pukey". hrm, yay. I said I'd be willing to switch meds if they felt it was necessary but I wasn't asking for them to be changed. (make sense)

My a1c was up to 6.4 from 5.9 and they lowered one of my med doses because I keep getting mouth ulcers. Dr. Transplant was out of town and he returns this week so I'll know more later on in the week what they decide to do with my goofy self.

Meanwhine i'm whiney.

I shouldn't be I haven't really had huge issues with the immuno supresssion meds, just a lot of minor annoyances which add up to be a big pain in the booty.

Maybe, just maybe, if we get the nausea and mouth ulcers under control I won't feel so rollercoasterish and pessimistic about the whole islet transplant experience, because over all it really has been good. My online friends just get to hear the ass end of it all.

So hats off to those of you that keep coming back for more! I appreciate it.

Thanks for listening.

Yayyou!

oh hey! new picture of the bird sitting on my head. He likes my new hat! Me too.

Random Entertainment For The Week 10/3

I know, I know, it's early but I'm going to Chicago tomorrow, won't be home until late Friday, and I was late with the entertainment a couple of weeks ago and got emails about it!

It doesn't hurt that I find this incredibly amusing. ;)

Enjoy.
